I'm a little confused though, you mentioned your car has an alarm system. Do you know if it's an after market alarm system or installed by the manufacture (by Chrysler Jeep)? The reason I ask is because you mentioned controlling the alarm with the key-fob, but after market alarms are controlled by the control that comes with the alarm, not with the key-fob. Please let me know when you get a chance. The lock is controlled by an electrical solenoid, which apparently is not getting any power or it's damage. Had you tried locking the door using the left door lock switch. This is the master switch that should lock all four doors and the hatch. If it doesn't, then there's no electricity going to the solenoid or the solenoid has gone bad. Put your ears near the rear lock, then using the key-fob, try opening and closing the door and listen for any sound coming from the lock. If you hear a sound, then the electricity is getting to the solenoid, so I will suspect a bad solenoid. But if you don't hear any sound at all, then it could be an electrical issue (loose connection or cut wire) or a bad solenoid. Try my suggestions and see what you can come up with and let me know.
